Post Election Letter to My Children

Today as I reflect on yesterday\\\'s presidential election I realize that no man that runs for office can truly give us the hope that we so deeply need. My deepest desire is to teach my children of the hope that is ours in Christ alone and that they may use it to touch those in their sphere of influence for eternity. More »

Dear Mom Who Feels Like She is Miserably Failing, I’ve Been There.

Dear Mom who feels like she is miserably failing,

I’ve been there.

Oh mama, you are not alone.  Do you sometimes feel like you have miserably failed as a mama and your baby hasn’t even left for college yet? There are times that my heart aches so badly because I feel like I have already lost my patience with my little guy one too many times.  At times I honestly find myself wondering if he struggles with this or that because I have reacted poorly to many of his tantrums and struggles.  As I have continued to feel this way I have been searching for truth to combat my negative thinking, after all I really am trying to do the best that I can.

I have realized during the past months and weeks that I have to give myself the same grace that God gives me.  I know that sometimes it isn’t easy to do. You might feel the same pressure that I do. The pressure to be the perfect mom, the one who doesn’t mess up the lives of her children.  You want to be a mom like the one you read about on all the blogs.  You know the one I am talking about, the one who has all the answers, who always reacts perfectly, who always knows exactly how to discipline, and who has children who always behave just as they ought.

How to Use Facebook to Save Money on Healthy Food

Did you know that you can save money on healthy food just by connecting with others on facebook?  It wasn’t so long ago that I was trying to save money by couponing.   Unfortunately, most of the time products that can be purchased with a coupon or that can be found practically free contain fillers, sugar, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.  The truth is that most of those things are junk food.     I believe that it is true when it comes to food most of the time you really do get what you pay for.  I also believe that you really are what you eat.  So if you want to be healthy it is important to find healthy food to eat.

Even though I don’t spend much time searching for coupons anymore and I do try to leave plenty of room in the budget to pay for food.  I believe that feeding my family a nourishing diet will keep us out of the doctors office later. But, the Webb family is still on a budget and quite a strict one actually.  And, even though I allow myself for wiggle room to pay for nourishing food I am always looking for ways to save on food that really feeds us.  We want to be wise with the money that God gives us and we do not have unlimited resources to spend money as we please even on food.

Homemade Herbal Sore Throat Lozenge Recipe

It is that itchy, scratchy, yucky throat time of year again.  That means it is a great time to make this homemade herbal sore throat lozenge recipe. Some falls we seem to say pretty healthy around the Webb household, but this year it seems as though we have already had our share of colds.  Maybe because I have become germ-o-phobe freak since Piper had to have surgery.  I’m usually ok with germs, I figure they are a part of life and are building our immune systems but Piper having a surgery just kind of made me freak out a little bit.  But, germ-o-phobe or not it is always good to have some homemade herbal sore throat lozenges on hand.  These lozenges will help keep you healthy, have a minimal sore throat, are very easy to make, and store well.

Piper’s Surgery: Bicanthal Advancement for Craniosynostis at Brenners Children’s Hospital

The past four days has gone so fast and so slow at the same time.  Four days ago Piper, my four-month-old, had a Bicanthal Advancement for Craniosynostis at Brenners Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  My prayer is that this surgery is the most difficult thing that our family will ever face.  Craniosynostis is when one or more of the natural sutures or cracks in an infant’s head fuse early.  The fusing of the skull typically happens in the womb.

Not terribly common, this syndrome happens with about 1 in 2500 babies and is at times not caught soon enough after birth.  Thankfully, we caught Piper’s problem early due to the fact that her nose was crooked and she was barely able to open her right eye right after delivery. This caused us to watch her head closely and ask to see a specialist.  If the fusion of the skull is not corrected it can cause many health problems for the child.  It can cause pressure on the brain, brain damage, developmental problems, neural problems, and/or eye sight problems once a child gets older and the brain expands.  Since medicine is unable to predict which problems the condition will cause treatment is recommended in all cases.

Many surgeons like to do the surgery between 4 and 5 months, while others choose to do it around 6 and 7 months ideally.  Surgeries are often done on older children, but when a child gets older than 7 months or so the surgery seems to get more and more difficult and traumatic for both the child and the parents. The problem is best caught early.

Meet my beautiful third born. Her name is Piper. Piper has Craniosynostois.

This gorgeous babe just turned 4 months old. Sweet Piper has been diagnosed with Craniosynostois. In the womb one of the four natural sutures in her head fused together and in just a few weeks she has to do surgery to open that suture back up.

Sweet Ginger Chili Sauce is so yummy and fabulous for these quick and easy crockpot meatballs.  This sauce is completely gluten free and all natural too.  I bought my tasty sauce at EarthFare or you can click the link above and find it at Amazon.  If you have a love for both spicy and sweet together you will love this sauce.  I can just imagine how genius it would be to use it as a glaze on all kinds of goodies!

This tasty dish would be wonderful for tailgating, a get together, or just to curb a meatball craving you might have.  Yum!  I would love to hear what you think!

Gluten Free: Banana Peanut Butter Muffins

I just love the sweet and salty mix of bananas and peanut butter. And, these muffins just hit the spot when it comes to that fabulous combo.  I love this recipe because you wouldn’t even know that it was gluten free.  Coconut Flour has become one of my most favorite gluten free flours to bake with because it is both very nutritious and tasty.   This recipe also contains one of my favorite natural sugars to bake with Muscovado Sugar. Muscovado Sugar is a delicious light brown sugar that tastes similar to a typical store bought light brown sugar, but contains some nutrition. If you are in need of gluten free and you love banana peanut butter muffins don’t miss out on this tasty recipe!

This tasty meal will delight your tummy and warm you all over on a chilly winter day.  If you are looking for something tasty to try this gluten free hearty lentil soup may just do the trick.   My hubby never does know what he will find at the dinner table waiting for him and I rarely like to make a meal more than once.  I always love experimenting in the kitchen and trying out new things.  I get a little rush out of using up ingredients before they go bad and get every last ounce of nutrition from any ingredient I can find.  I try to feed my family gluten free meals as much as possible and it typically ends up being 80% of our meals.   I was just tickled to find out that this recipe that I dreamed up was yummy after feasting on it and love it that I used up all the veggies from our organic product box from last week.  This Hearty Lentil Soup Recipe turned out to be the perfect meal to fight that bite in the air on a fall September day.  There is no doubt in my mind that we will be eating this one again.
